Comparison of Citation Management Software: Free Open Workshop

Learn about the basic features of common citation management tools and discover which one is most appropriate for your needs. Class will include brief demonstrations of 4 tools: RefWorks, EndNote, Mendeley, and Zotero. The focus of the class is to compare and contrast these products, as well as provide resources for assisting with decision making in choosing a suitable tool. Advice on getting started with using a citation manager will be offered. This workshop is hands-on and there will be time for questions at the end.

As the University of Iowa moves to EndNote as its official citation management solution, we at Hardin are here to help with the transition from RefWorks (or any other tool). At this quick workshop, you will learn how to collect your citations and bibliographic data and import them into EndNote.

Web-based Citation Management with EndNote Basic

EndNote Basic is a web-based citation management software that is freely available to all UI affiliates. It allows you to import, organize and format citations for papers, articles, etc. EndNote Basic is not the same as EndNote Desktop software.

This session is hands-on and free for UI students and affiliates. There will be time for questions at the end.

Get Organized

Are PDFs scattered all over your computer with names that you cannot pronounce? Want to create an organized, clearly named, and internet-accessible personal library? This hands-on session will show you how using free tools such as Mendeley and Dropbox as well as commercial tools such as EndNote and RefWorks. Attendees are encouraged to bring a selection of PDFs with them.

All Hardin Open Workshops are free for UI students and affiliates. There will be time for questions at the end.
