Each week we will highlight one of the many MarketLinedatabases we have here at the Pomerantz Business Library.

The database: MarketLine Advantage (formerly known as DataMonitor)

Where to find it: You can find it here, and under M in the databases A-Z list.

Use it to find:

  • Industry analyses (by industry and geography)
  • Company reports (including SWOT analyses)
  • Company News
  • Country analysis reports
  • Country Statistics
  • Case Studies
  • Financial Deals

Tips for searching:

  • Use the search bar and select “All research” or limit to “Case Studies”, “Companies”, “Company News”, “Countries”, “Financial Deals”, or “Industries”
  • You can also browse by – “Industries”, Geographies”, “Companies”, or “Databases”
  • Once you have done a first search, use the right sidebar to refine your search.

The database: Bloomberg Professional (Terminals)

Where to find it: The Bloomberg terminals have to be accessed in person. We now have 4 in the Business Library and there are others available on campus.

  • Create a unique login/account
  • Type into the search bar at the top
  • Type BPS to access the Bloomberg Professional Service resource center and and array of cheat sheets for Bloomberg function codes
  • Bloomberg Essentials  Online Training is available to all users, type BESS to access these

Database of the Week: LexisNexis Academic

Each week we will highlight one of the many databases we have here at the Pomerantz Business Library.

The database: LexisNexis Academic LexisNexis

Where to find it: You can find it here, and under L in the databases A-Z list.

Use it to find:

  • Information on both public and private companies
  • Journal and newspaper articles
  • Company profiles (from Hoovers)
    • lists of executives, company hierarchy, financials, mergers & acquisitions, etc.
  • Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filings
  • Legal information
  • Company Dossiers – create lists of companies

Tips for searching:

  • Use the search box to search everything in the database (newspapers, company directories, legal news, magazines, journals, etc.)
  • Use the “Get Company Info” box Company_infoon the bottom right, to search company profiles
  • Click the “Company Dossier” link at the bottom of the “Get Company Info” box, and then “Create Company List” Company_List

Where to find it: You can find it here, and under F in the databases A-Z list .

Use it to find:

  • Journal articles
  • Trade and industry publications
  • Newspaper articles (including the Wall Street Journal)
  • Historical stock prices
  • Company Reports (public companies)

Tips for searching:

  • Use the search box to quickly find news articles
  • Use the “Company/Markets” tab, and select Company for a quick company search

UI Libraries Book Collection Reaches Five Million

The UI Libraries selected The Biographical Dictionary of Iowa, edited by David Hudson, Marvin Bergman and Loren Horton as the five millionth book for the collection.  More information about this milestone can be found on the UI Main Library blog here.
