Database of the Week: Vault

Each week we will highlight one of the many databases we have here at the Pomerantz Business Library.

The database: Vault Vault

Where to find it: You can find it here, and under V in the databases A-Z list.

Use it to find:

  • Internship information
  • Company info, rankings and reviews – includes info such as: geographic reach, operations, sales and marketing, financial performance, strategy, competitors, and company news
  • Information on Industries and Professions. Industry info includes: overview of the industry, background, structure, outlook, and resources and associations.
  • Resume, Interviewing, Cover letter, Networking tips and advice

Tips for searching:

  • Use the search bar on the top right
  • Select Companies at the top to see a list of companies by industry or search for a specif company
  • Select Internships at the top to search for internships and see lists of internships
  • Select Schools at the top to see rankings of Undergraduate, Business Schools or Law Schools, or to search for a specific school.

Database of the Week: Proquest Historical Annual Reports

Each week we will highlight one of the many databases we have here at the Pomerantz Business Library.

The database: Proquest Historical Annual Reports Historical_Annual_Reports

Where to find it: You can find it here, and under P in the databases A-Z list.

Annual reports (1844-current) available for over 800 companies, 43,000 reports, 1.3M pages. Searchable puff images with indexed data such as: financial, Fortune 500 ranking, industry classification, key people, geographic location, auditor and related companies. It can also be browsed by company name, related names, industry or date..

Use it to find:

  • Annual reports, dating back to 1844
  • Company histories
  • Historical financials

Tips for searching:

  • Do a Basic Search using the search box
  • Or do an Advanced search – and look up companies or codes from a list
  • Or Browse by Company, Industry or Date

Database of the Week: RMA Annual Statement Studies

The database: RMA Annual Statement Studies/eStatements Online RMA

Where to find it: You can find it here, and under R in the databases A-Z list.
For over 95 years, RMA’s Annual Statement Studies® has been the industry standard for comparison financial data. Material contained in today’s Annual Statement Studies was first published in the March 1919 issue of the Federal Reserve Bulletin. In the days before computers, the Annual Statement Studies data was recorded in pencil on yellow ledger paper! Today, it features data for over 778 industries.

Use it to find:

  • Industry Financial Ratio Benchmarks
  • Industry Default Probabilities
  • Cash Flow Measures
  • Data definitions

Tips for searching:

  • Use the Basic Search
    • Browse by industry title (alphabetical)
    • Browse by NAICS
    • Browse by sector
    • Search for an industry by keyword or NAICS
  • Use the Advanced Search to specify: data group, year, region, range, and type of data.
  • Export data into Excel RMA_data

Database of the Week: Key Business Ratios

The database: D&B Key Business Ratios

Where to find it: You can find it here, and under K in the databases A-Z list.

From their website”Key Business Ratios on the Web (KBR) provides immediate online access to competitive benchmarking data. This powerful tool lets researchers examine industry benchmarks compiled from D&B®’s database of public and private companies, featuring 14 key business ratios (users choose a one-year or three-year set of ratios) for public and private companies in 800 lines of business.” KBR

Use it to find:

  • Industry ratios
  • Company information
  • Solvency Ratios
  • Efficiency Ratios
  • Profitability Ratios

Tips for searching:

  • To search for industry ratios – type an industry code (SIC or NAICs)
  • To display company information – click to company sub-tab of the reports section, sort by company name, SIC, line of Business, DUNS number, NAIC, MSA, City, Sate or Country.
  • You can also perform a comparative analysis
  • Use the Ratios tab to calculate key business ratios (solvency, efficiency and profitability)
  • Use the Help Guides – top right corner

  • US Industry Financial Reports
  • Local Industry Financial Reports
  • Micro Firm Profit-Loss Reports
  • Industry Market Reports
  • Also includes Competitive Market Analyzer

salesTips for searching:

  • Start with a keyword or NAICS search in the search bar
  • Click on “Industry” and browse by NAICS sectors
  • Once you have found your relevant industry, click into it, then choose an Industry Financial Profile for a specific region and sales class, or a Micro Firm Profit-Loss Report, Industry Market Report, or use the Competitive market Analyzer
  • Open your report as a PDF or HTML
