Workshop: Scopus

Have you tried Scopus, our new database? The UI Libraries provide free access to Scopus, an excellent multidisciplinary citation database. Join us for a Scopus Workshop and learn advanced techniques that will help you conduct your research more efficiently and effectively.

In this workshop you will learn how to:

  • Access Scopus from off-campus;
  • Use refine options to retrieve more relevant search results;
  • Create reports to analyze your results;
  • Save citations from Scopus to RefWorks, EndNote and other citation managers;
  • Save searches and set up alerts to keep up with the literature in your field;
  • Find the full-text of citations retrieved in Scopus;
  • Get help when you need it!

This workshop is free and open to all UI students, faculty and staff. There is no need to register. You may bring your lunch if desired. Free coffee will be provided. If you have any questions, please contact Sara Scheib at sara-scheib@uiowa.edu or (319) 335-3024.

Good News From the Sciences Library

We had an upgrade at the Sciences Library!  We have all new computers on the first and third floor. They are faster and the screens are bigger for much easier reading. We were also lucky enough to get two scanners. One is located on the first floor by the printer and the other one is on the  3rd floor in the computer cluster room. We are very excited about these changes! If you need help using the scanners please feel free to ask anyone at the desk and they will be glad to show you.

Pi Day at the Sciences Library March 19th at 3:14

The Sciences Library along with the rest of the Libraries on Campus will be celebrating Pi day on March 19th when the students and faculty will be back on campus. We have a new display in our case with Pi day books. We will be serving coffee and apple pie bites from Neel Bakery in Coralville. So please come and join us. We will be serving of course at 3:14 on the 19th! Hope to see you there.

Darwin Days: The Rap Guide to Evolution

Sciences Library, Health Sciences and the Biology Department have joined together to bring The Rap Guide to Evolution to the Englert Theatre. Feb 12th at 7pm. This will be the finale for the Darwin Day Celebrations. Doors will open at 6pm we hope you can join us. There are more events planned for Fri, Sat and Sun. Please check the website out for this informations http://iowacitydarwinday2012.org/.  Both libraries are displaying artifacts and books of Darwin and his studies.

Welcome back from your long winter break! We have a new exhibit up:”The Science of Sports”  If you are looking for a warm place to study and grab a cup of coffee please join us. We have two floors with computers. We also have comfortable bean bag chairs. If you have any questions take advantage of Meebo Chat. There is either a full-time staff member or student available to answer your questions.

Happy Halloween and Mole Day!

Happy Mole day which is Oct. 23! We are also want to wish you a Happy Halloween!

We are celebrating them both together in our display case and around the library. Have you ever seen a 4 horned sheep? We have the skull of one. Have you ever seen a Frankenmole? We have one of those to. Come by and check out our new display.
