{"id":413,"date":"2012-06-18T16:09:17","date_gmt":"2012-06-18T16:09:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.lib.uiowa.edu\/test\/?p=413"},"modified":"2015-01-12T16:45:58","modified_gmt":"2015-01-12T16:45:58","slug":"new-reference-database-accessscience","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.lib.uiowa.edu\/zoia\/2012\/06\/18\/new-reference-database-accessscience\/","title":{"rendered":"New reference database: AccessScience"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The University of Iowa Libraries has added a new reference database to its collection: <a title=\"AccessScience\" href=\"http:\/\/purl.lib.uiowa.edu\/AccessSci\" target=\"_blank\">AccessScience<\/a>. <a title=\"AccessScience\" href=\"http:\/\/purl.lib.uiowa.edu\/AccessSci\" target=\"_blank\">AccessScience<\/a> is available to students, faculty and staff of the University of Iowa and can be accessed both on and off-campus.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"AccessScience\" href=\"http:\/\/purl.lib.uiowa.edu\/AccessSci\" target=\"_blank\">AccessScience<\/a> (<a title=\"AccessScience video demo\" href=\"http:\/\/www.accessscience.com\/pages\/about\" target=\"_blank\">video demo<\/a>) allows researchers to browse by topic or use keyword searching to find:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Over 8,500 online articles from the <em>McGraw-Hill Encyclopedia of Science &amp; Technology<\/em>, 10th edition, written by more than 5000 researchers;<\/li>\n<li>Research updates from the <em>McGraw-Hill Yearbooks of Science &amp; Technology;<\/em><\/li>\n<li>110,000+ definitions from the <em>McGraw-Hill Dictionary of Scientific and Technical Terms;<\/em><\/li>\n<li>2,000+ biographies of well-known scientists from the <em>Hutchinson Dictionary of Scientific Biography<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Science and technology news and videos\u00a0from <em>Science News<\/em> and <em>ScienCentral.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Other features include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Multimedia collections of animations, videos and images;<\/li>\n<li>Q &amp; A section with user-submitted questions and expert answers;<\/li>\n<li>Topical study guides and ideas for essay topics;<\/li>\n<li>Bibliographies with literature citations organized by topic.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a title=\"AccessScience\" href=\"http:\/\/purl.lib.uiowa.edu\/AccessSci\" target=\"_blank\">AccessScience<\/a> is an excellent place for science &amp; technology\u00a0researchers to begin their search. It provides an authoritative general overview of science &amp; technology topics and guides\u00a0researchers to other relevant and reliable sources for further study.
