This past week&nbsp;we achieved 75,000, and we&#8217;d like to take the opportunity to talk a little bit about&nbsp;the elements that have led to this amazing growth.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4916\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4916\" style=\"width: 205px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/diyhistory.lib.uiowa.edu\/transcribe\/4702\/144461\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-4916\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.lib.uiowa.edu\/studio\/files\/2017\/02\/keith-albee-blog-4.jpg\" alt=\"Transcribed report from Keith-Albee Collection\" width=\"205\" height=\"273\"><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4916\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Transcribed report from Keith-Albee collection<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Available Collections<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Since reaching 50,000 pages, six new collections have been added&nbsp;including <a href=\"https:\/\/diyhistory.lib.uiowa.edu\/scholarship\">Scholarship at Iowa<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/diyhistory.lib.uiowa.edu\/eggcards\">Museum of Natural History Egg Cards<\/a>,<a href=\"https:\/\/diyhistory.lib.uiowa.edu\/socialjustice\"> Social Justice<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/diyhistory.lib.uiowa.edu\/vanallen\">Van Allen Papers<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/diyhistory.lib.uiowa.edu\/collections\/show\/23\">Germans in Iowa<\/a>, and most recently, the <a href=\"http:\/\/diyhistory.lib.uiowa.edu\/keithalbee\">Keith-Albee Vaudeville notebooks<\/a>. Each of these collections allows a glimpse into a certain moment&nbsp;in history from early 1900s managers&#8217; reports on a wide array of entertainment to important documents detailing correspondences in Iowa during the Civil Rights era.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4913\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4913\" style=\"width: 339px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.lib.uiowa.edu\/studio\/files\/2017\/02\/egg-transcription-blitz.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-4913\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.lib.uiowa.edu\/studio\/files\/2017\/02\/egg-transcription-blitz-300x216.jpg\" alt=\"Egg Card Transcription Blitz from Fall 2016\" width=\"339\" height=\"244\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.lib.uiowa.edu\/studio\/files\/2017\/02\/egg-transcription-blitz-300x216.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog.lib.uiowa.edu\/studio\/files\/2017\/02\/egg-transcription-blitz-1024x738.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blog.lib.uiowa.edu\/studio\/files\/2017\/02\/egg-transcription-blitz.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 339px) 100vw, 339px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4913\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Egg Card Transcription Blitz from Fall 2016<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Outreach<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Expanding across platforms like <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DIY_History\">Twitter<\/a>&nbsp;has helped us continually make these efforts&nbsp;more accessible, and has allowed for additional crowdsourcing opportunities in classrooms and at other institutions, like the <a href=\"http:\/\/archives.novascotia.ca\/\">Nova Scotia Archives<\/a>.&nbsp;&nbsp;Just this&nbsp;past fall, locally and in conjunction with a global transcribing effort,&nbsp;the <a href=\"https:\/\/mnh.uiowa.edu\/\">UI&#8217;s Museum of Natural History<\/a> partnered with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wedigbio.org\/\">WeDigBio<\/a> for a week-long egg card transcription blitz. In short, these collections are getting to see the light of day in an exciting and participatory manner and we couldn&#8217;t be happier with the response.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Community<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Lastly, reaching this milestone wouldn&#8217;t&nbsp;be&nbsp;possible without the continued support of the wonderful community of volunteer transcriptionists who help&nbsp;to make these collections come to life by making&nbsp;them available and searchable&nbsp;for researchers and historians.
