{"id":2996,"date":"2012-10-29T12:11:16","date_gmt":"2012-10-29T12:11:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.lib.uiowa.edu\/drp\/?p=2996"},"modified":"2014-01-14T13:21:44","modified_gmt":"2014-01-14T19:21:44","slug":"welcome-metafiltarians","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.lib.uiowa.edu\/studio\/2012\/10\/29\/welcome-metafiltarians\/","title":{"rendered":"Welcome, MetaFiltarians!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left\">Visits to our web pages typically drop over the weekend, so we were very pleasantly surprised this morning to see traffic for our crowdsourcing site, <a href=\"http:\/\/diyhistory.lib.uiowa.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">DIY History<\/a>, up almost 2000% thanks to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.metafilter.com\/121316\/Want-to-Make-Historic-Recipes\" target=\"_blank\">an entry on the link-sharing site MetaFilter<\/a>. Even better than the statistics are the hundreds of newly transcribed pages, including the one below featuring a grisly recipe for stewed calf&#8217;s head (&#8220;let the calfshead be split open and cleaned&#8230;&#8221;), now available for full-text searching.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">We&#8217;re on the waiting list for a MetaFilter account so we can provide belated responses to some of the comments, but in the meantime let us state here that: (1) we are definitely interested in adding more manuscript cookbooks to the project, please get in touch with our <a href=\"http:\/\/lib.uiowa.edu\/sc\/contact\/\" target=\"_blank\">Special Collections department<\/a> if you have one you&#8217;d like to donate; and (2) the cookbook collection does indeed date back to 1600, we&#8217;re still in the process of digitizing everything, but we just bumped <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lib.uiowa.edu\/scua\/msc\/tomsc550\/msc533\/msc533.htm#english\" target=\"_blank\">this item<\/a> with its &#8220;records of pasley, and preserbes, wax work and Limning &amp; fruits Artificial&#8221; to the head of the queue &#8212; all of you Elizabethan handwriting fans, check back soon!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/diyhistory.lib.uiowa.edu\/transcribe\/scripto\/transcribe\/117\/7108\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-2998\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.lib.uiowa.edu\/studio\/files\/2012\/10\/calfshead.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"588\" height=\"431\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.lib.uiowa.edu\/studio\/files\/2012\/10\/calfshead.jpg 915w, https:\/\/blog.lib.uiowa.edu\/studio\/files\/2012\/10\/calfshead-300x219.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 588px) 100vw, 588px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Visits to our web pages typically drop over the weekend, so we were very pleasantly surprised this morning to see traffic for our crowdsourcing site, DIY History, up almost 2000% thanks to an entry on the link-sharing site MetaFilter.
