Culver to his wife Mary. The idea, hatched in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lib.uiowa.edu\/sc\/\" target=\"_blank\">Special Collections <\/a>where the original letters are housed,\u00a0is to\u00a0web publish this series of\u00a0Civil War-era correspondence exactly 150 years to the exact day each letter was written.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.lib.uiowa.edu\/culver\/\">http:\/\/blog.lib.uiowa.edu\/culver\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>We hope that Civil War buffs and anyone else interested in a compelling story will set an\u00a0RSS feed to follow the Culvers&#8217; story as it unfolds, and track his location throughout the United States. These letters are also available in our \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/digital.lib.uiowa.edu\/cwd\/transcripts.html\">Civil War Diaries &amp; Letters Transcription Project<\/a>\u00a0or\u00a0compiled in the book, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Your-affectionate-husband-J-F-Culver\/dp\/0984037802\/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1338568760&amp;sr=8-1\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Your Affectionate Husband, J.F. Culver: Letters Written During the Civil War.<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The U.S. Civil War Sesquicentennial has provided a national context to expose our Civil War holdings to\u00a0a broad public. This effort to re-issue the Culver\u00a0letters on a blog has given <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lib.uiowa.edu\/drp\/\" target=\"_blank\">Digital Research &amp; Publishing <\/a>a chance to\u00a0experiment with a few web publishing\u00a0tools, including Google Maps, the WordPress SIMILE timeline, first\u00a0developed at MIT, as well as a WordPress plug-in to manage footnotes.\u00a0At the Libraries, we are always on the lookout for new ways to publish, promote and preserve the academic and\u00a0historic record.
