As before, we&#8217;re asking you to help improve the usefulness of these materials by transcribing handwritten pages in order to make them full-text searchable, as well as easier to read and browse. But while the diaries chiefly contained informal firsthand accounts of soldiers, the letters were written with an audience in mind and also\u00a0include the accounts of friends and family back home, providing a fuller view of life during the Civil War.
