Later named \u201cWWJ\u201d, it was the first radio station with daily programs. Less than a year after the station was launched, the radio show \u201cHints to Housewives\u201d was created and later, \u201cTonight\u2019s Dinner by Radio\u201d. The show aired every morning, except for Sundays and holidays, and included ideas for evening meals and table service. Recipes for the dishes on the show were then published in the Women\u2019s Pages of The Detroit News. However, many listeners and readers wanted a more permanent form of the recipes, so in 1933, The Detroit News published The Detroit News Menu Cook Book.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-2779 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.lib.uiowa.edu\/speccoll\/files\/2015\/07\/Blog1small-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"Blog1small\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\"><\/p>\n<p>This cookbook includes four weeks of dinner ideas for each of the four seasons, as well as meal ideas for a few major holidays, like Christmas and Thanksgiving. There is a wide variety in the menus included, from \u201cMeat Loaf with Scalloped Potatoes and Mashed Turnips\u201d, to \u201cCalf Hearts with Onions and Parsley Potatoes\u201d. The book even includes a recipe for \u201cBaby Porcupines\u201d, which do not actually contain any porcupine, but appear to be meatballs rolled in rice. Everything from Brussel sprouts to apple souffl\u00e9 can be found in this book.
