Open Education Week<\/span><\/a> (March 1-5, 2021<\/span>, <\/span>#OEWeek<\/span>) is a time <\/span>whe<\/span>n<\/span> educators<\/span> around the world<\/span> come together to learn <\/span>and share practices around<\/span> <\/span>Open Educational Resources (OER)<\/span><\/a> and <\/span>Open Pedagogy<\/span><\/a>. While there are a host of <\/span>excellent webinars and events<\/span><\/a> to tune into this week, <\/span>let\u2019s also celebrate<\/span> <\/span>our local faculty who are <\/span>creating <\/span>openly licensed resources<\/span>, tailor<\/span>ing<\/span> existing <\/span>OER<\/span> to better fit the needs of their students,<\/span> and<\/span> creat<\/span>ing<\/span> courses with fewer barriers to learning.<\/span> Integrating OER into a course takes a lot of work, <\/span>often<\/span>times uncompensated. <\/span>But the result is well worth it. Students <\/span>can<\/span> access their course materials <\/span>for free<\/span>, from the first day of class. Ideally, the materials have been <\/span>chosen and tailored to better <\/span>align with the needs of the class<\/span>, and they can be adapted easily if something isn\u2019t working.<\/span> <\/span> <\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

OER Projects Underway<\/span> <\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

UI Libraries supports faculty and graduate students working on OER projects through <\/span>our<\/span> <\/span>OpenHawks grant<\/span>s<\/span> program<\/span><\/a>. <\/span> There are currently 27 UI grant teams who are working on or have recently completed OER projects as part of this three-year pilot. You can read more about these projects at the links to our 2019<\/a> and 2020<\/a> announcements. Completed OpenHawks projects can be found in Iowa Research Online<\/a>, as well as OER Commons<\/a>, Open Textbook Library<\/a>, and wherever else you go to find OER. The projects below are complete and ready to use.
