{"id":370,"date":"2008-02-26T10:29:27","date_gmt":"2008-02-26T16:29:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.lib.uiowa.edu\/news\/2008\/02\/26\/former-student-assistant-wins-oscar\/"},"modified":"2013-02-08T09:10:35","modified_gmt":"2013-02-08T15:10:35","slug":"former-student-assistant-wins-oscar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.lib.uiowa.edu\/news\/2008\/02\/26\/former-student-assistant-wins-oscar\/","title":{"rendered":"Former Student Assistant Wins Oscar"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Brook Busey, one of the students hired for the Dada retrospective conversion project in 2000, won the Oscar for best original screenplay at Academy Awards for <em>Juno<\/em>, written under the pen name Diablo Cody.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/infohawk.uiowa.edu\/F?func=direct&amp;local_base=uiowa&amp;doc_number=003379184\"><img decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" vspace=\"10\" align=\"right\" width=\"100\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.lib.uiowa.edu\/news\/files\/2008\/02\/candygirl.jpg\" hspace=\"10\" alt=\"candygirl.jpg\" \/><\/a>Although she did not explicitly mention the <a href=\"http:\/\/sdrc.lib.uiowa.edu\/dada\/\">International Dada Archive <\/a>in her acceptance speech, her supervisor, Tim Shipe,\u00a0Arts &amp; Literature Bibliographer,\u00a0jokingly claims that it was her job in the University Libraries, &#8220;force-fitting chaotic Dada texts into the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/MARC_standards\">rigorous MARC format<\/a>, that taught her the discipline needed to focus her creativity and write an entire screenplay.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>After her work in the Libraries, she went on to make several other interesting career choices before becoming a screenwriter.
