{"id":248,"date":"2007-06-19T14:26:06","date_gmt":"2007-06-19T20:26:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.lib.uiowa.edu\/news\/2007\/06\/19\/sudanese-community-visit-ui-libraries\/"},"modified":"2007-06-19T14:26:06","modified_gmt":"2007-06-19T20:26:06","slug":"sudanese-community-visit-ui-libraries","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.lib.uiowa.edu\/news\/2007\/06\/19\/sudanese-community-visit-ui-libraries\/","title":{"rendered":"Sudanese Community Visit UI Libraries"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Members of the Sudanese Community Center will visit the Main Library, Information Arcade\u00a0on Wednesday, June 27 at 7 p.m. for a special presentation of Arabic language materials by UI Libraries staff members.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" vspace=\"10\" align=\"left\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.lib.uiowa.edu\/news\/files\/2007\/06\/arabic.jpg\" hspace=\"10\" alt=\"arabic.jpg\" \/>Over the last decade, the\u00a0UI Libraries&#8217; collection of Arabic materials has been\u00a0growing to support the teaching and research on North Africa and the Middle East. Today this collection includes books, journals, maps, films and online resources.<\/p>\n<p>When\u00a0Libraries&#8217; International Studies Bibliographer Edward Miner became the director of the\u00a0African Studies Program in 2006, he sought opportunities to engage local African communities in activities in the Libraries.\u00a0Around that same time\u00a0Rebecca Routh, Cataloging Librarian and Khalda Mohieldin, library assistant joined the UI Libraries staff.
