February 24 \u2013 Soldering Basics<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Soldering is one of the most fundamental skills needed to dabble in the world of electronics. The two go together like peas and carrots. And, although it is possible to learn about, and build, electronics without needing to pick up a soldering iron, you\u2019ll soon discover that a whole new world is opened with this one simple skill. This workshop will focus on doing through-hole soldering.<\/li>\n<li>Taught by Jeremy Roszell, Engineering Electronics Shop.<\/li>\n<li>If you want to be able to build along in the workshop, 2 variations of kits are available from the Electronics Shop and can be purchased when registering for the workshop. Both kits will include all consumable materials with the difference being one kit includes a soldering iron. The \u201cmaterials only kit\u201d is $11.45 and the \u201cmaterials with soldering iron kit\u201d is $67.35. With magnets of course!<\/li>\n<li>Isaac Johnson, of the IEEE Student Group, will demonstrate how a magnet and some electrical components can make a simple shake flashlight that never needs batteries!<\/li>\n<li>This type of flashlight is great for hiking, camping, or emergency situations.
