I hope you did and are doing well with finals and enjoyed the hot coffee, cocoa and cider served at the Engineering Library to help you keep awake during these grueling sessions.\u00a0\u00a0In between\u00a0exams I saw some of you putting together\u00a0the\u00a0LEGO blocks\u00a0and it looked like you were having fun!\u00a0 The LEGO blocks were for you\u00a0from Kari Kozak head of the\u00a0Library, \"Lego<\/a> \"lego<\/a> \"Lego<\/a><\/p>\n

Now for some facts about holidays which I took from Wikipedia;<\/p>\n

For constitutional reasons, the\u00a0United States<\/a>\u00a0does not have\u00a0national holidays<\/a>\u00a0in the sense that most other nations do, i.e. days on which all businesses are closed by law and employees have a day off.[1]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0Pursuant to the\u00a0Tenth Amendment<\/a>, theU.S. federal government<\/a>\u00a0only has constitutional jurisdiction to establish holidays for itself, for certain federally chartered and regulated businesses (such as federal banks), and for the\u00a0District of Columbia<\/a>; and pursuant to the\u00a0First Amendment<\/a>, neither federal, state nor local government can require any business (other than those mentioned) or individual to observe any holiday. Otherwise, constitutional authority to create public holidays is a power reserved to the states. Most states also allow local jurisdictions (cities, villages, etc.) to establish their own local holidays.<\/p>\n

As of 2012, there are eleven\u00a0federal holidays in the United States<\/a>, ten annual holidays and one\u00a0quadrennial<\/a>\u00a0holiday (Inauguration Day<\/a>).[2]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0Pursuant to the\u00a0Uniform Monday Holiday Act<\/a>\u00a0of 1968 (effective 1971), official holidays are observed on a Monday, except for\u00a0New Year’s Day<\/a>,\u00a0Independence Day<\/a>,\u00a0Veterans Day<\/a>,\u00a0Thanksgiving<\/a>, and\u00a0Christmas<\/a>.[<\/a>\u00a0<\/sup><\/p>\n
