Paper Engineering, closely allied with chemical engineering, deals with application of math, chemistry, physics, and engineering to the pulp and paper industry; design and analysis of equipment and processes used in the manufacture of paper.<sup>1<\/sup> The fascinating part of paper engineering is\u00a0paper art including pop-up books, miniature books and origami (paper folding).<\/p>\n<p><em><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-1467 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.lib.uiowa.edu\/eng\/files\/2015\/01\/image02-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Alice\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.lib.uiowa.edu\/eng\/files\/2015\/01\/image02-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog.lib.uiowa.edu\/eng\/files\/2015\/01\/image02.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Alice&#8217;s Adventure in Wonderland<\/em>\u00a0from the University&#8217;s Special Collections is a pop-book made by a pop-up book artist and paper engineer, Robert Sabuda.\u00a0Before Alice came to\u00a0the Engineering Library, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/UIowaConsLab\/status\/535562292801187840\/photo\/1\">her\u00a0knee<\/a> was fixed by the University Libraries Conservation Lab.<\/p>\n<p>Amazing miniature books in the exhibit case are also from the University&#8217;s Special Collections. These miniature books are selected from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lib.uiowa.edu\/sc\/smith\/\">Charlotte M. Smith Collection<\/a>.<sup>2<\/sup> The suitcase is beyond cute! Inside there are three tiny books (in the white circle container), a magnifying glass to read them and larger copies of these tiny books.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-1468 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.lib.uiowa.edu\/eng\/files\/2015\/01\/image01-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"miniature book set\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.lib.uiowa.edu\/eng\/files\/2015\/01\/image01-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog.lib.uiowa.edu\/eng\/files\/2015\/01\/image01.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Among these miniature books in the exhibit case, you may be interested in seeing picture books: a\u00a0children&#8217;s calendar in the Meiji period (over 100 years ago), <em>the Tale of Genji<\/em> (<span style=\"color: #545454\">\u6e90\u6c0f\u7269\u8a9e<\/span>) and\u00a0<em>Accordion to zither : a musical ABC.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Stop by and find more!<\/p>\n<p><strong>References<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><sup>1<\/sup> Paper Science and Engineering at the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point.
