{"id":2959,"date":"2012-05-09T09:02:26","date_gmt":"2012-05-09T09:02:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.lib.uiowa.edu\/preservation\/?p=2959"},"modified":"2012-05-02T21:06:35","modified_gmt":"2012-05-02T21:06:35","slug":"johnson-county-record-books","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.lib.uiowa.edu\/conservation\/2012\/05\/09\/johnson-county-record-books\/","title":{"rendered":"Johnson County Record Books"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Wednesday, May 9, 2012<\/p>\n<p>We have conserved a number of record books from the Flood of 2008 for the Johnson County Historical Society. \u00a0Most of them have been pretty straight forward in the treatment that was needed. \u00a0We were so close to being finished with all of the record books when we came across a record book that hadn&#8217;t been sewn, but needed to be rebound.<\/p>\n<p>This meant we needed to double-fan or perfect bind the book. \u00a0This process uses adhesive to keep all the pages together. \u00a0It is the process used to bind most paperback books on the market today. \u00a0It is a fairly simple process but the sheer size of the record book made it a little difficult.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2960\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2960\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.lib.uiowa.edu\/conservation\/files\/2012\/05\/JCHS-Double-Fan.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2960\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.lib.uiowa.edu\/conservation\/files\/2012\/05\/JCHS-Double-Fan.jpg\" alt=\"The record book all glued up.\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2960\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The record book all glued up.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The record book in question is 18&#8243; tall, 12&#8243; wide and 3&#8243; thick, too big to fit into any of our lying presses!
