{"id":12,"date":"2008-06-09T18:20:45","date_gmt":"2008-06-09T23:20:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.lib.uiowa.edu\/preservation\/2008\/07\/20\/flood-alert\/"},"modified":"2008-06-09T18:20:45","modified_gmt":"2008-06-09T23:20:45","slug":"flood-alert","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.lib.uiowa.edu\/conservation\/2008\/06\/09\/flood-alert\/","title":{"rendered":"Flood Alert!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Monday, June 9, 2008<\/p>\n<p>Linn County and the City of Cedar Rapids have jointly issued a flood alert for properties located along the Cedar River.\u00a0 According to the county, the river will experience a record flood crest on Wednesday afternoon or evening at about 21.5 feet.\u00a0 Previous crests in 1929 at 20 feet, in 1961 at 19.6 feet, and 1993 at 19.3 feet may be eclipsed by this flood. The city of Cedar Rapids, Linn County, and the Linn County Emergency Management Agency are working together to address the seriousness of this threat.\u00a0 Please take all necessary precautions.<\/p>\n<p>The University put out a call for assistance with sandbagging efforts. Several\u00a0 UI Libraries staff assist.\u00a0 An announcement is sent out \u201cThe University of Iowa has suspended normal activities on the arts campus due to anticipated flooding.
