{"id":6074,"date":"2017-03-31T20:20:47","date_gmt":"2017-03-31T20:20:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.lib.uiowa.edu\/iwa\/?p=1223"},"modified":"2017-03-31T20:20:47","modified_gmt":"2017-03-31T20:20:47","slug":"travel-grant-applications-due-april-15-2017","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.lib.uiowa.edu\/combo\/2017\/03\/31\/travel-grant-applications-due-april-15-2017\/","title":{"rendered":"Travel Grant Applications due April 15, 2017"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Linda and Richard Kerber Fund\u00a0for Research in the Iowa Women\u2019s Archives<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In honor of <a href=\"http:\/\/clas.uiowa.edu\/history\/people\/linda-k-kerber\">Linda<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.medicine.uiowa.edu\/dept_primary_apr.aspx?appointment=Internal%20Medicine&amp;id=kerberr\">Richard<\/a> Kerber\u2019s enduring support for scholarship in the history of women, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lib.uiowa.edu\/iwa\/\">Iowa Women\u2019s Archives<\/a> (University of Iowa Libraries) announces a grant of $1000 to fund travel to Iowa City, Iowa, to conduct research in the Iowa Women\u2019s Archives.\u00a0 We welcome applicants from a variety of backgrounds, including graduate students, academic and public historians, and independent researchers and writers, although preference will be given to graduate students. The grant is intended to offset travel and lodging expenses of researchers whose work will benefit from using collections in the archives.\u00a0 The strengths of the Iowa Women\u2019s Archives include rich collections on the history of the women\u2019s movement, political activism, African Americans, rural women, and Latinas, especially in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.\u00a0 The collections are global in scope.\u00a0 (See <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lib.uiowa.edu\/iwa\/viewshare\/\">http:\/\/www.lib.uiowa.edu\/iwa\/viewshare\/<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Grant recipients are expected to donate a courtesy copy of any publications that make use of the collections, and to acknowledge support of the Iowa Women\u2019s Archives in any theses, dissertations, and publications.<\/p>\n<p>Applications should be sent to <a href=\"mailto:lib-women@uiowa.edu\">lib-women@uiowa.edu<\/a> with the subject line TRAVEL GRANT APPLICATION. Applications must be received via email by April 15, 2017.\u00a0 Notification of awards will be made by\u00a0May 1, 2017.<\/p>\n<p><strong>APPLICATION GUIDELINES<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3>Who is eligible?<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>We welcome applications from graduate students, academic and public historians, and independent researchers and writers who reside outside a 100-mile radius of Iowa City, Iowa, and whose research projects would be substantially enriched by the use of materials held by the Iowa Women\u2019s Archives.<\/li>\n<li>Research topics should be strongly supported by the collections of the Iowa Women\u2019s Archives. We encourage each prospective grant applicant to discuss his or her research project and the collections that might support it with the Iowa Women\u2019s Archives staff before submitting an application.<\/li>\n<li>For information about the collections, please see our <a href=\"http:\/\/collguides.lib.uiowa.edu\/search.php\">collection guides<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>What expenses does the award cover?<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The award may be used for travel and lodging but not for meals or photocopying. \u00a0Prior to applying, non-US citizens should contact the library regarding visas or other required paperwork.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>How do I apply?<\/h3>\n<p>The application packet consists of the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<ul>\n<li>A one-page letter of application. Be sure to state your name, mailing address, email address, and phone number.<\/li>\n<li>A research proposal of no more than 500 words describing the purpose of the research, the Iowa Women\u2019s Archives holdings to be consulted, and the significance of these holdings to the overall project.<\/li>\n<li>A curriculum vita of no more than two pages.<\/li>\n<li>A proposed budget (not to exceed $1000) indicating how the funds will be spent.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Submit application to <a href=\"mailto:lib-women@uiowa.edu\">lib-women@uiowa.edu\u00a0<\/a> with the subject line TRAVEL GRANT APPLICATION.
