The UI Libraries is pleased to host Nicholas Meyer, who will make an appearance as a guest speaker in conjunction with the Main Library Gallery exhibition\u00a0<\/span>50 Years of Star Trek<\/a><\/i><\/b>.<\/p>\n

Meyer, who is an alumnus of the University of Iowa,\u00a0directed the movie\u00a0Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan<\/a>\u00a0(1982)<\/b><\/i>\u00a0<\/span>and\u00a0contributed to the shooting script for that film (uncredited). He wrote portions of the screenplay\u00a0for\u00a0Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home<\/a>\u00a0(1986)<\/b><\/i>\u00a0<\/span>and went on to direct\u00a0Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country<\/a>\u00a0(1991)<\/b><\/i>, for which he also co-wrote the screenplay.<\/p>\n

A long-time Sherlockian, Meyer’s writing prowess led to a\u00a0best-selling novel,\u00a0<\/span>The Seven-Per-Cent Solution: Being a Reprint from the Reminiscences of John H. Watson, M.D.\u00a0<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/b>The novel, crafted by Meyer in a style faithful to the original series,\u00a0follows Holmes\u00a0through cocaine addiction and\u00a0recovery.\u00a0\u00a0Meyer\u00a0<\/b>received an Oscar nomination for his screenplay of the novel.<\/p>\n

Meyer will deliver a brief talk, titled\u00a0The Last Man To Understand Anything<\/b>.<\/i>\u00a0There will be a Q&A session afterward.<\/p>\n
