The law mandates that the public be given free access to the results of research conducted with funds provided by the California Department of Public Health. Inspiring news, and timely &#8212; the University of Iowa Libraries&#8217; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lib.uiowa.edu\/openaccess\/\">&#8220;Open Access and the Public Good&#8221;<\/a> panel discussion last week largely focused on the question of who should be the beneficiaries of research conducted with taxpayer dollars.<\/p>\n<p>The office of Assemblyman <span id=\"ctl05_ctl00_lblContent\">Brian Nestande (R-Palm Desert) issued <a href=\"http:\/\/arc.asm.ca.gov\/member\/AD42\/?p=article&amp;sid=215&amp;id=259203\">a press release<\/a> announcing the signing of the act into law.
