{"id":2891,"date":"2014-05-05T14:23:32","date_gmt":"2014-05-05T14:23:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.lib.uiowa.edu\/hardin\/?p=5261"},"modified":"2014-05-05T14:23:32","modified_gmt":"2014-05-05T14:23:32","slug":"from-dna-to-beer-new-exhibit-at-hardin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.lib.uiowa.edu\/combo\/2014\/05\/05\/from-dna-to-beer-new-exhibit-at-hardin\/","title":{"rendered":"From DNA to Beer: New Exhibit at Hardin"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hardin Library is currently hosting the exhibit, <em>From DNA to Beer: Harnessing Nature in Medicine and Industry<\/em>. \u00a0This exhibition was developed and produced by the National Library of Medicine and the Smithsonian\u2019s National Museum of American History.<\/p>\n<p><em>From DNA to Beer<\/em> explores the processes, problems, and potential inherent in technologies that use life. \u00a0The National Library of Medicine&#8217;s description of the exhibit explains:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><strong>Microbes\u2014tiny organisms too small to be seen with the naked eye have altered human history.<\/strong> Life forms such as bacteria, yeasts, and molds can cause sickness or restore health, and help produce foods and beverages. Scientists, in partnership with industry, have developed techniques to harness the powers of these microbes.
