There are a growing number of altmetrics applications out there. One example is the <i>Altmetric for Scopus.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><\/i><a href=\"http:\/\/purl.lib.uiowa.edu\/scopus\" >Scopus<\/a>\u00a0is a multidisciplinary database with substantial international coverage. When you view an abstract in Scopus, you might see a box titled <i>Altmetric for Scopus <\/i>on the right side of the screen.<i> \u00a0<\/i>Below is a screenshot taken from the abstract view of the article:\u00a0Slinin, Y., Paudel, M., Taylor, B. C., Ishani, A., Rossom, R., Yaffe, K., . . . Ensrud, K. E. (2012). Association between serum 25(OH) vitamin D and the risk of cognitive decline in older women.<i>\u00a0<\/i><i>Journals of Gerontology &#8211; Series A Biological Sciences and Medical Sciences,\u00a067 A<\/i>(10), 1092-1098.<\/p>\n<p>It should be noted that Scopus is\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/blog.lib.uiowa.edu\/eresources\/2012\/01\/04\/internet-explorer-9\/\" >not compatible with Internet Explorer (IE) 9<\/a> (like <a href=\"http:\/\/purl.lib.uiowa.edu\/proquest\/dissertations\" >ProQuest Dissertations and Theses<\/a>). IE 9 users should also make sure compatibility view mode is turned on: go to Tools and then click on Compatibility View settings and check Display all websites in Compatibility View.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.lib.uiowa.edu\/needtoknow\/files\/2013\/02\/altmetric-for-scopus.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-372\" alt=\"altmetric for scopus\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.lib.uiowa.edu\/needtoknow\/files\/2013\/02\/altmetric-for-scopus-300x251.png\" width=\"300\" height=\"251\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><i>Altmetric for Scopus is <\/i>a 3rd party web application that collects mentions on social media and news outlets and counts on popular reference managers for a \u00a0particular paper. \u00a0The number inside the colored circle is the\u00a0Altmetric score\u00a0for the article you&#8217;re viewing. \u00a0If you don\u2019t see the Altmetric for Scopus, it means this app can\u2019t find any mentions of the article you are viewing in their data sources. Also keep in mind that Altmetric only started collecting content from supported publishers\/repositories during the second half of 2011. \u00a0Read more on the app\u2019s potential limits on its <a href=\"http:\/\/altmetric.uservoice.com\/knowledgebase\/articles\/83526\">developer&#8217;s website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Come to Hardin Library on Tuesday, Feb 19th, 1:00-2:00 pm and learn more about Scopus.
