{"id":4283,"date":"2016-04-05T18:11:32","date_gmt":"2016-04-05T18:11:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.lib.uiowa.edu\/speccoll\/?p=4283"},"modified":"2016-04-05T18:32:53","modified_gmt":"2016-04-05T18:32:53","slug":"felicia-rice-and-guillermo-gomez-pena-artwork-docundoc-on-display","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/blog.lib.uiowa.edu\/speccoll\/2016\/04\/05\/felicia-rice-and-guillermo-gomez-pena-artwork-docundoc-on-display\/","title":{"rendered":"Felicia Rice and Guillermo G\u00f3mez-Pe\u00f1a Artwork Doc\/Undoc on Display"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last week Special Collections the Ida Cordelia Beam Distinguished Visiting Professors Guillermo G\u00f3mez-Pe\u00f1a and Felicia Rice stopped by Special Collections for a performance and their collaborative work Doc\/Undoc is now on display.<\/p>\n<p>Rice performed\u00a0\u201cDOC\/UNDOC: Collaboration and Metamorphosis,\u201d followed by a conversation with\u00a0Guillermo\u00a0G\u00f3mez-Pe\u00f1a on March 31st.<\/p>\n<p>G\u00f3mez-Pe\u00f1a is a performance artist whose live art, video, radio, photography, and writing have earned acclaim\u00a0&#8212;\u00a0and\u00a0many\u00a0awards,\u00a0including a MacArthur Fellowship\u00a0&#8212;\u00a0over the past thirty years. He\u00a0is the\u00a0artistic director of the transnational performance collective\u00a0La Pocha Nostra.<\/p>\n<p>Rice\u2019s design, printing, and publication work for her\u00a0Moving Parts Press\u00a0(Santa Cruz, CA) has been exhibited at major book fairs in New York and Frankfurt, and collected by the Whitney Museum, the Bodleian Library, and the Victoria and Albert Museum, among others.\u00a0Rice is also an educator who teaches courses in letterpress printing, typography, printmaking, typography, and bookmaking at institutions ranging from UC-Santa Cruz to the Santa Cruz YWCA.<\/p>\n<p>Together with their collaborators, G\u00f3mez-Pe\u00f1a and Rice have published artists\u2019 books including\u00a0DOC\/UNDOC: Documentado\/Undocumented,\u00a0Ars Sham\u00e1nica Perform\u00e1tica\u00a0(2014), a copy of\u00a0which is held by UI&#8217;s Special Collections.<\/p>\n<p>Doc\/Undoc as well as selections of work from the Moving Parts Press on loan from Felicia Rice are on display in the third floor hallway gallery cases outside of Special Collections until May 20th, 2016.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Event 3\/31:<\/strong><\/p>\n<div id='gallery-1' class='gallery
