In what ways might they do so in the future?<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The students of the Fall 2018 offering of the <span style=\"color: #993366\"><a style=\"color: #993366\" href=\"https:\/\/academicmusiciowa.com\/\">graduate musicology seminar<\/a><\/span> in American music invite you to consider these questions as they relate to&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">the place of American music in the past, present, and future of the University of Iowa School of Music.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The \u201cExploring Our Sounds\u201d <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">exhibit,&nbsp;which is on display throughout the Spring 2019 semester on the first floor of the Voxman Music Building, showcases our responses to these questions. Norling<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>April 2: <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.lib.uiowa.edu\/rbml\/2019\/04\/02\/sounds-from-the-field-anthony-burgess-in-iowa-city-how-clockwork-oranges-author-came-to-write-a-symphony-for-the-university-of-iowa\/\">Sounds from the Field &#8211; Anthony Burgess in Iowa City: How <em>Clockwork Orange<\/em>\u2019s Author Came to Write a Symphony for the University of Iowa by Dr. Nathan Platte<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Planning Your Visit<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Bring headphones and a mobile device so you can hear what you are reading about.<br><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Where possible, we have provided <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">direct <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">access to the different traditions of American music making discussed in the form of a digital music playlist. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Examples were selected to further illustrate points in our exhibit text, and to encourage broader enjoyment of the diverse sounds and styles that make up the traditions of American music making at the University of Iowa.<br><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #993366\">The Exhibit Playlist can be accessed at <strong><a style=\"color: #993366\" href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/2TAom3t\">https:\/\/bit.ly\/2TAom3t<\/a><\/strong>, or by scannable QR code at the exhibit.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Look out for theme clusters: &#8220;Curriculums,&#8221; &#8220;Student Musical Life,&#8221; and &#8220;Composers.&#8221;<br><\/strong>Over the&nbsp;semester, we&nbsp;conducted individual studies of the displayed&nbsp;items, drawn&nbsp;from the Rita Benton Music Library collections, and then worked together to put our independent work in dialogue with that of our colleagues. The \u201cCurriculums,\u201d \u201cStudent Musical Life,\u201d and \u201cComposers\u201d areas of the exhibit are the results of these collaborative efforts.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Be ready to explore further.<br><\/strong>The dotted lines running&nbsp;throughout the exhibit are representative of the broader thematic connections that crisscross the different areas and aspects of the \u201cExploring Our Sounds\u201d Exhibit.
