Online Survey About Electronic Resources

Using Online ResourcesHow do faculty, students, staff and others use the electronic resources at the UI Libraries?

Since a significant portion of the Libraries’ collections are available online and more resources are dedicated each year to enhancing those collections, we are trying to answer that question with “real-time” data through an online, transaction-based survey.  This survey called “Measuring the Impact of Networked Electronic Services (MINES)” was originally designed by the University of Connecticut and has been used across the country by a number of other large research libraries.

The survey will be implemented during random two-hour periods each month. When library users want to consult an electronic resource, they will have to complete the brief multiple-choice survey (only 3 or 4 questions). Once they complete the questionnaire, they will not be asked to complete the survey again during that sampling period, unless they log off and then back on or have a delay of some length during the session. The computer will simply record the information additional times.

The UI Libraries spend over $4 million dollars on electronic resources and that figure increases each year. It is important for us to have usage data about these resources so we make the best use of our limited funds.

We thank library users for participating in this project.
