Hardin Library’s newest exhibit traces the history of the dubious attempts to divine personality characteristics by analyzing the size, shape, structure, and composition of the human head. It was Aristotle who coined the term, “physiognomy” to support his own writings and inclinations on the subject. Since that time the notion that character and personality are somehow imprinted in facial features has received considerable attention through a variety of approaches, nearly all of them unsupported by empirical evidence of any kind and many of them used for such nefarious purposes as racial stereotyping and the outright support of bigotry. The exhibit is located near the 3rd floor entrance to the library.

You need to use your HawkID and password to access library resources as of August 4, 2009.

The campus HawkID service is being restructured to meet UI Health Care security requirements, provide consistency of service, and to reduce the resources that are required to roll out new services. UI Health Care students and employees will now have two IDs: the HealthCareID for clinical information systems such as Epic, and the HawkID for University systems such as Employee Self Service, ISIS, ICON, and other non-clinical services.

If you are a health care employee and you need to set up your password, you can do this online: https://login.uiowa.edu/uip/login.page?service=https://web.its.uiowa.edu/password/home.page

If you need assistance with your HawkID or password, please contact Information Technology Services.
